church involvement

We as Mount Olives CBO through our church came up with programs through which community engagement goes further than this by undertaking actions that support the good of the community itself, such as reaching out to the needy, old people and providing them with necessary services and supplies and information for better change.

Church Programs To The Community.

  1. Community Outreach Programs:We organize outreach programs that cater to the needs of the less fortunate in the community. This can include food drives, clothing donations, and providing good shelter for the old age, orphaned and vulnerable children & homeless. By addressing physical needs, we do offer a beacon of hope to those who are struggling.
  2. Counseling and Support Groups:Offering counseling services and support groups for individuals dealing with grief, addiction, or mental health issues to provide a safe space for healing and hope.
  3. Youth Engagement:Engaging with the youth through sports, arts, and educational training programs to provide them with a sense of purpose and direction, fostering hope for a better future.
  4. Volunteer Initiatives:Encouraging church members to volunteer in local charities, hospitals, and schools can spread hope through acts of kindness and service.
  5. Environmental Stewardship:Churches can lead by example in caring for the environment by organizing clean-up drives, recycling programs, and promoting sustainable practices, instilling hope for a healthier planet.
  6. Interfaith Collaboration:Partnering with other religious organizations for community service projects that can promote tolerance, understanding, and hope in diverse communities.
  7. Health and Wellness Programs:Providing health screenings, fitness classes, and wellness workshops that can help improve the physical and mental well-being of community members, giving them hope for a healthier life.
  8. Educational Opportunities:Pay school school fee for the less fortunate students, donating learning materials, and adult education classes that can empower individuals with knowledge and skills, opening doors to new opportunities and hope for the future.
  9. Spiritual Guidance and Prayer:Offering spiritual guidance, prayer meetings, and worship services can provide comfort and hope to those seeking solace and direction in their lives.

elderly home visit

Volunteers Home Visit

Our community volunteers together with the Mount Olives CBO team conducting home based care to the elderly. As a great volunteer, we’re all guided by in depth qualities and values as below:

  • Effective communication
  • Time management
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Problem-solving
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Empathy and compassion
  • Organisational skills
  • Continuous learning
  • Emotional resilience
  • Positive attitude

The key findings from these visits indicate that the elderly persons are faced by various socio-economic challenges such as poverty, health, housing, mobility, HIV and AIDS, isolation and neglect among others.

Nurturing Care Program

The Nurturing Care Framework provides guidance to help children and families thrive through care for the individual child within a broader enabling environment of capable caregivers, empowered communities, supportive services, and enabling policies (WHO 2018).

The child needs to explore the environment freely and to interact with things around them, as learning happens through play. A child needs someone to constantly stimulate them, to speak, to explain to them the environment and what is happening. When that is done, the child learns so much, especially at this time when the brain is sensitive and depends on inputs from the environment.

“So early childhood development, the work that I am very passionate about, is about giving children the best start in life. Scientifically, this sets them on a positive trajectory for health, development, and productivity that lasts a lifetime. Moreover, nurturing care for early childhood development enables children to develop executive function skills early in life that help them to become resilient and eventually productive adults in society.

Nurturing Care Program on progress

Weekly Church Programs

Worshippers, children and senior adults, faculty and the unemployed, families and singles all gather on Sunday morning to worship God. We begin with words of greeting and welcome, which are more than a cheery “good morning”, to remind us that in worship we seek to glorify God. Our opening words strive to let all people know that they are welcome in this place, for God invites us all into the Body of Christ. The greeting is followed by the procession in which the Praise and Worship team and worship leaders follow the cross to the front of the sanctuary. The members of the procession are ordinary people, representative of all those who are gathered. They remind us that each of us is on a spiritual journey as we follow Jesus Christ.

SERMON

By the mysterious work of the Holy Spirit, the sermon is the Word of God to the community of faith. Each preacher strives to connect the stories and truths of the Bible to our daily lives, offering us the good news of Jesus Christ. Each worshiper is called to listen to the message with openness and faith. Ultimately, however, the sermon is more than preacher and listener, as the Holy Spirit uses the sermon to speak to our hearts and minds. If you discuss the sermon with others, don’t be surprised if individuals find meaning in different parts of the sermon. That is the Spirit at work.

BENEDICTION AND SENDING FORTH

We are people gathered by Christ’s love, who scatter to be witnesses to that love in the world. Gathering and scattering; inhaling life to exhale life in the world; inspired by the Spirit to expire for Christ. Through the worship liturgy, we are reminded of how God works in creation and new creation, and we learn to see Jesus’ presence anew. Being enlightened by the light of the world in this way, we are sent out to continue worshiping, to see God’s presence and activity in the world, and to testify to God’s grace. To this end, the minister proclaims a good word of blessing and sending, and the people, led by the cross, depart singing a song of worship and praise.
